Notes The PolySwitch circuit protector is a positive temperature coefficient resistor that undergoes a large, quick increase in resistance when the over-current heats it above a specific point, going near open circuit! When the temperature reduces, the PolySwitch resets to a near short circuit, unharmed, to resume normal operation. No manual resetting is required. This makes them an ideal economical protector for building inside speakers. For the best performance it is recommended that each driver be individually protected.INSTRUCTIONS It is not possible to simply recommended a polyswitch for a speaker wattage. Speaker power ratings, Impedances (and therefore Trip Current) supplied with speakers are generalized and are very difficult to determine with any real accuracy. This is standard for most types of speaker protection due to frequency and the dynamics of music! The only recommendation we can find is to pick a conservative value polyswitch and that if it repeatedly false triggers, select the next value up, with caution. To convert Power rating into Trip Current, use Ohms law: Determine the maximum power ratings for each driver P = 1.414 x Prms = 1.414 x Pnom = ½Ppmpo = ½Pp-p = Pmax Divide this value by the Impedance (R or Z), this gives you the trigger current (I trip). Select the RXE Code that has a lower trip current than the one you calculated. Double check your findings.
